HOOD AND LIFT-GATE PACKAGING

  • As a result of Dealership concerns, Packaging Engineering has redesigned the hood and lift-gate cartons.
  • The "H" style folders will no longer be used. Both hoods and lift-gates will now be packaged in full overlap style cartons. (All designs are Fed Ex approved and utilize a "shock absorber" design feature that allows the part to survive multiple drops within the distribution cycle.)
  • A list of parts with packaging changes is maintained on the Packaging web site within QC Dealer.com (Click here to view changes). It contains part number and packaging revision dates. (Open parts releases and inventory positions dictate when Customers will actually experience the new packaging.)
  • The web site illustrates how actual packaging dates are displayed on packages. This is meant to assist Customers as they evaluate the new packaging performance.
  • Packaging Engineering continues to review all packaging – including other crash parts commodities, as directed by Customer input.

Hoods

  • An "air cell" design is being used to suspend hoods from side-to-side movement.
  • Currently there are 63 hoods in the process of being redesigned; of them, 15 have already been revised. (SEE ATTACHMENT.) The remaining part numbers will be revised by the end of the second quarter.

Lift-Gates

  • The new lift-gate packaging incorporates corrugated blocks to provide additional protection to all surfaces of the part.
  • Currently there are 39 liftgates in the process of being redesigned; of which four have already been revised. (SEE ATTACHMENT.) Nine more will be changed by the end of the second quarter. The remaining part numbers will be revised in the third quarter.
